In 2003 Wim began building his own winery, and this was completed for the 2004 harvest. New processing equipment was imported and installed, with enough capacity for future increased volumes. A barrel room and laboratory were completed for the 2007 vintage.
In 2005 Outi Jakovirta was employed as Julicher's winemaker. Outi is from Helsinki and moved to New Zealand in 2004. On her arrival she studied for a Postgraduate Diploma in Viticulture and Oenology at Lincoln University.
She has significant experience in the international wine industry and has worked as a harvest cellar hand in France, Germany, Australia (Yarra Valley and Tasmania) and California.
The Wine Philosophy
Julicher Estate’s aim is to produce high quality wine with cellaring potential or to be enjoyed early for its fruit characters. This has already been achieved with earlier vintages, as our array of medals and awards in the Bragato, Air New Zealand, New Zealand International Wine Show and Gisborne wine competitions prove.
