Julicher Estate (pronounced ‘U - li – ker’) is a family-owned boutique Martinborough winery focusing on the production of prestige quality wines with distinctive fruit flavors.
The company was founded 10 years ago by Wim Julicher when he planted the winery’s first vineyards on the Te Muna Terraces. Not afraid of new challenges the Julicher family toiled away to establish their vineyards from bare land. No mean feat!
Six years on from their first vintage in 2002 Wim and his partner Sue have no regrets. This year the company celebrates six years of producing Julicher Estate wines.
Julicher Estate has 20 hectares of vineyards on the Te Muna Terraces, an extension of the Martinborough Terraces. Located on an old riverbed with freedraining, alluvial soils Julicher’s vineyards provide ideal viticulture conditions. The special micro- climate of the Te Muna area make these vineyards ideal for the production of small parcel specialist wines.
Best known for their Pinot Noir, Julicher Estate was also recently awarded 5 stars in Cuisine magazine for their Julicher Estate Riesling 2005. This latest award reflects the excellent micro-climate and terroir of their Te Muna Vineyard for Riesling. Other popular varieties produced by Julicher Estate include Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc and Rosé.
Julicher Estate is building distribution in New Zealand and also currently export to the UK and Japan. The winery’s current production is around 4,500 cases with future plans to grow to 8,000 cases
