Julicher Estate Riesling 2016
Viticulture: This wine is made from sustainably-grown Riesling grapes, hand harvested from our estate vineyard in Te Muna Road, Martinborough.
Winemaking: The grapes were whole-bunch pressed with only short skin contact. The juice was settled overnight, then racked clear to 2 older, neutral oak barrels and a stainless steel tank. The ferment was cool and long, taking 14 days to complete. The portions were blended after 3 months, then gently filtered before bottling.
Colour: Pale straw.
Aroma: Fragrant lime blossom and lemon zest punch through the slight nuttiness of the oak on the nose. There are hints of freshly picked stonefruit.
Palate: The wine is fine boned, yet powerful. The purity of the acid line lengthens the wine, while the oak has added a breadth to the mid palate. The phenolic structure is light and slightly dusty, providing a perfect juxtaposition to the residual sugar left after ferment.
